Body Mass Index (BMI) compares your weight to your height. It is a quick screening number doctors use to discuss risk — it does not measure muscle, body fat distribution, waist size, or overall fitness on its own. That is why Dr Amir interprets BMI together with your full health picture.
General ranges (adults)
- Below 18.5 — often classed as underweight
- 18.5 to 24.9 — normal range for many adults
- 25 to 29.9 — overweight
- 30 and above — obese
These cut-offs can differ for some ethnic groups, older adults, and athletes with high muscle mass — which is why a number on a chart never replaces a consultation.
Waist circumference matters too
Central fat around the abdomen carries additional metabolic risk. Your doctor may discuss waist measurement alongside BMI during assessment.
How we use BMI in consultations
BMI helps start the conversation — it does not end it. We look at blood pressure, blood sugar history, medications, sleep, and what you have already tried. A BMI of 27 with controlled blood pressure may need a different plan than BMI 32 with multiple risk factors.

Track yours with us
After you register, use Calculate my BMI in your dashboard to log weight over time. Bring that history to your video consultation so Dr Amir can see progress — not just a single reading on the day of the call.
